Belphegor (TV series)
Belphegor is a 2001 French animated TV series (26 episodes), created by Gérald Dupeyrot . The animated series is based on the horror novel by Arthur Bernède. The show has been produced by Les Armateurs. The art director of the show is Frederic Bezian.
The series was dubbed in Bulgarian and aired on BNT 1 about a year after it aired in France.
The show includes supernatural occurrences such as time travel, time freezing and psychokinesis. It follows the episodic occurrences approach but every episode still contributes to the overarching story line.
Plot[edit]
A male and female journalists help the cheif of police to stop the criminal Belphegor. The antagonist is always one step ahead and puts into effect different convoluted schemes every time similar to the antagonist Light Yagami of the popular series Death Note.

In an interview with the creator at the time the series aired, he had stated that the show was made for purely commercial purposes[1] which is why the studio had the freedom to deviate from the original work.
In 2017 Ouest France wrote an article[2] in honor of the original Belphagor character's 90th birthday in which they mainly focused on this 2001 animated series. One intriguing fact mentioned in the article is that during the creation of the series, the director had to abide by the rule that there must not be any character deaths in the show in order to appeal to the general public.
