About[edit]

Best Delegate was co-founded by Ryan Villanueva and Kevin Felix Chan in 2010 and is based out of New York City. The two became friends while attending MUN conferences in Southern California, kept in touch on the college circuit and by volunteering for UNA-USA’s Global Classrooms conferences, and eventually decided to leave their corporate jobs to turn a blog that Ryan had started from his dorm room at Yale into a global education organization dedicated to helping others succeed in Model United Nations.[2]

Conference Database[edit]

Best Delegate provides a periodically-updated list of Model United Nations conferences. Conferences are grouped by academic level and by geography and then sorted by date for the current academic calendar.[3]

Model United Nations Institute[edit]

Best Delegate provides a summer program for Middle School students, High School students, and Advisors at Universities including Harvard, Georgetown, Columbia, UCLA, UC Berkeley, UC Irvine and Imperial College London. The program focuses on teaching key skills including research, writing, and negotiation.[4] The program features simulations, guest speakers, lectures, and discussion groups.[5] Programs offered include beginning, intermediate, and advanced programs, UN studies, crisis programs, and a London THIMUN procedure based program.

Rankings[edit]

Best Delegate has for several years provided rankings of Model UN teams. Most recently, the University of Chicago's Model UN team was ranked the best in North America at the college level for the 2014-2015 academic year, with teams from Georgetown University and Harvard University ranked second and third respectively.[6]

Circuits[edit]

Best Delegate has been invariably credited or blamed for divvying up the North American MUN playing field into two circuits for its rankings. It dubbed the student-led teams that frequent college-hosted conferences the World Division and the faculty-led teams that mostly attend organization-hosted conferences the National Division.[7]
