Black Menace was a gangster rap group from Hollygrove, New Orleans, LA. The original members are JMC (Ronald Jones, Jr. a.k.a. J-Dawg), Threat (Wilson Williams) and DJ Jaz (Edward Woods). DJ Jaz eventually left the group, making them a duo.[1] The duo was one of the first groups signed to Big Boy Records. In 1993, they released their debut Really Doe on Big Boy Records. The album was produced entirely by Big Boy's in-house producer Precise and featured a guest appearance by G-Slimm, who made his debut appearance on several tracks. They followed up with the album *Drama Time*, which was released in 1995. The album was again produced by Precise and featured labelmates Mystikal, Fiend, G-Slimm and Ghetto Twiinz.[2]

Biography

Black Menace formed in 1989 with neighborhood friends J-Dawg, The Threat, and former member DJ Jazz, who started rapping together. They released their EP *Trespassing* on Hollygrove Records in 1992. After recording their debut, (J-Dawg, Threat and DJ Jaz) signed with Big Boy Records and released *Really Doe*. After its release, DJ Jaz left.[3] *Really Doe* was released August 18, 1993, selling over 100,000 units. The album gained Black Menace popularity and recognition in New Orleans.[4] In 1995 Black Menace released their sophomore album "Drama Time." In 1997, the duo released solo albums and decided to split ways with Big Boy Records a year later. They founded their own label, Menace Entertainment, and released the album *Mo Drama* in 2000. In 2001, they collaborated with former labelmates Insane and G-Quikk on their last album to date, *The IV Horsemen*.
