Blue Bay Curaçao, also known as Blue Bay Curaçao Golf & Beach Resort, is one of the largest resorts on the island of Curaçao in the Caribbean. This 220 hectare resort consists of residential areas, a 18-holes golf course, a beach with several restaurants, a hotel with different accommodation types and a services company. There are approximately 450 households living on the resort.

History[edit]

The Blue Bay Curacao resort was already named 'Blaauwbaai' (Blue Bay in Dutch). This was a plantation that dates back in the years 1700. Anno Blaauw, the owner at that time grew limes, oranges and the blue pigment Indigo. In the years 1800, Blue Bay was occupied and plundered by French pirates. In the 20th century, the resort became property of the Jacobs family, who used it as a farm. During the Second World War, American soldiers manned cannons at Blue Bay to shoot at German submarines that were located at the coasts of Curacao for the oil refinery. In the years of 1900 there was a local development group that purchased the plantation from the Jacobs family. In that time Blue Bay only consisted of a few roads and houses. The terrain needed to be developed into a resort. Steve Raspoort did this together with businessman Joep van den Nieuwenhuizen, the son-in-law of the hotel magnate Gerrit van der Valk. Gerrit already owned a golf resort on the island of Aruba, which was the same idea for Blue Bay Curaçao. They started developing the 18-holes golf course. During the construction of the golf course, Steve Raspoort, at an age of 78, bought out van Nieuwenhuizen and continued the development of the resort and golf course. At that time the grandson of Raspoort, Sepp Koster was a racing driver in the Indy Car. Raspoort proposed to his grandson to come to Curaçao and sell a year of Real-Estate. Koster then never left the island again. In 2007 Raspoort passed away, but his family continued realizing his dream to create the most desirable resort in the Caribbean. In 2015, Sepp bought out the rest of his family and made the transition to a corporate company, he took the place as the CEO and Owner of the resort.[1][2]

Blue Bay Curaçao[edit]

Blue Bay now consists of 5 different departments:

Development[edit]

The development department is mainly responsible for the Real-Estate on the resorts, they sell the different plots that are developed within the resort, together with the primary real-estate partner RE/MAX. Next to that they also develop, invent and manage new projects like The Shore and The Ridge. These are new to build luxury apartments right at the coast of Blue Bay Curaçao.[3][4]

Beach & Restaurants[edit]

This is one of the only natural beaches on Curaçao. There is a dive & watersports center located on the beach as well. Next to that there is a restaurant on the beach that offers lunch and dinners. At the Blend Beach Bar there are weekly happy hours organized with live music.

Hotel[edit]

The Blue Bay hotel is now part of The Blue Bay Collection. They currently host two different apartment types. The Ocean Apartments which are located right on the beach of the resort, and the private bungalows, Indigo Garden. Guests of the resort can make use of the swimming pools located at the accommodations, but also facilities like tennis courts, beach and hike trails.

Golf[edit]

This 18 holes golf course was designed by William ‘Rocky’ Rocquemore. He used the natural height differences, sand, sea and rocks to build this golf course. Blue Bay Golf is one of the three golf courses on the island of Curaçao. This course is a pay & play course, an official golf license is not necessary to play. Also here is an Asian restaurant 'Lemongrass' for breakfast lunch and dinner.[5]

Services[edit]

Blue Bay Services is a company within Blue Bay that can offer residents living on Blue Bay an extra carefree living experience. Services like housekeeping, gardening, pool maintenance or painting is all possible within this department. Also this company within the current company is responsible for the cleanliness and tidiness of the resort.
