Boatsetter is a privately held company headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Boatsetter is the first company in the United States to offer fully insured peer-to-peer boat rentals. The company is described as a boater-to-boater rental and charter marketplace.
History[edit]
Cruzin was founded in October 2012 [1] in San Francisco, CA. In the midst of accelerated growth in the peer-to-peer marketplace models (otherwise called collaborative consumption models) such as Airbnb and others, Cruzin was founded with the aim of helping people find pre-screened boats for rent across the United States. The company's initial investment came through angel investors in the US and Switzerland.
Cruzin was merged with BoatSetter in 2015. Boatsetter was founded by Andrew Sturner in 2014.[2] It was the first peer-to-peer boat sharing company to provide captained vessels.[3]
Operations[edit]
Cruzin [4] is an online marketplace where people interested in finding a boat for rent within the United States can sign up, go through a background check, choose a boat, book it and process payment directly through the site.[5] Boat owners are able to list their boats with pictures and description, go through a screening process, communicate with potential renters and collect payment, directly through the site.[6] Boat owners are protected by $1,000,000 in hull and liability insurance and towing services are provided by BoatUS.[7]
