Candice McKenzie is a British DJ, Radio Presenter, and Head of A&R for House Music label Quantize Recordings

Music career[edit]

Candice learned the art of DJing at the age of 16 after hearing a mix tape by a colleague in the local shoe shop where she had a Saturday job and she asked him to teach her how to DJ.

Already a record collector, she purchased a set of Technics 1210’s and a mixer from an old school friend and started DJing at parties in her local area playing House Music and UK Garage. She also DJ’ed on pirate radio stations including Upfront 99.3 FM.

In 1999 Candice started to receive overseas DJ bookings and decided to pursue a professional career in DJing. She spent many years travelling the world, DJing in countries such as Croatia, Georgia, Greece, Ibiza, India, Kazakhstan, Macedonia, Poland, Russia, Siberia, Slovenia, Ukraine and the USA. She left Upfront 99.3 FM and went on to DJ weekly on internet radio, first on Vertex FM and then later on SS Radio.

In 2009 Candice won a BEFFTA (Black, Entertainment, Film, Fashion, TV & Arts) award for Female DJ of the Year and in 2010 won another BEEFTA award for DJ of the Year.

In 2012 Candice decided to focus on playing predominantly Gospel House Music and Inspirational House Music in her DJ sets and radio shows and she is a specialist in this genre. In 2014, Candice was a UK Jury member in the Eurovision Song Contest and in 2015 she left SS Radio to join Premier Gospel Radio, the sister station of Premier Christian Radio, to present the Sanctified Selection, a popular, weekly Gospel House Music show. Candice is also a presenter on the second sister station Premier Praise.

Candice is Head of A&R at record label Quantize Recordingswhich was founded by DJ Spen and Thommy Davis. She also produces their by-weekly A&R show "Talent Tuesday" and has released many compilation albums on the label.

In 2020 she was named as one of "20 Black UK House music acts that you should know about" by MixMag Magazine.
