Carla Walker-Miller
Carla Walker-Miller is an American businesswoman and entrepreneur, Detroit booster,[1] and public speaker.[1][2]
Business career[edit]
Walker-Miller is the founder and CEO of Walker-Miller Energy Services,[3] a company in Detroit that, among other services, upgrades homes to be more energy-efficient[4] and employed almost 90 people as of 2018.[5] Under her leadership, Walker-Miller Energy Services made a list of the top fastest growing private companies five times.[6] However, her leadership of her company has been criticized on Glassdoor.[7]
Accomplishments, honors and awards[edit]
Walker-Miller is one of only a few business leaders to adopt progressive policies like a $15 minimum wage and a policy against excluding people with a criminal history from employment, and was added to the Inc. Female Founders 100 for efforts at "making an energy services company a tool for social justice".[6] She has also advocated a policy of hiring the long-term unemployed.[8]
Walker-Miller's work with her business led to her being named a "50 Black Women Over 50" Honoree.[2] She has also been inducted into her local Business Hall of Fame.[9]
