Carla Frayman, known professionally as Carlita, is a Turkish-Italian DJ, music producer, and multi-instrumentalist. Her work blends elements of electronic music with classical training, and she has gained international attention for her eclectic and visually-driven performances.[1]
Biography
Carlita was born in Istanbul, Turkey, to a Turkish father and an Italian mother.[2] She began learning piano at the age of three and cello at the age of eight. She later received formal classical music education and also learned to play guitar.[3]
While studying at Northeastern University in Boston (circa 2014), she began curating playlists for friends. A local club owner introduced her to CDJs and offered her a residency at Bijou nightclub. After graduating in 2017, she decided to pursue music professionally.[4]
Style and career
Carlita’s music incorporates house, downtempo, melodic techno, and organic elements.[5] Her sets are known for emotional depth, cultural references, and strong visual components.
She has performed at major festivals and venues including Coachella, Burning Man, Tomorrowland, Awakenings, Sónar, Cercle, and Circoloco.[6]
In 2023, she co-founded the multidisciplinary platform Senza Fine with DJ and producer DJ Tennis, combining music, visual art, and fashion.[7]
In 2024, Carlita released her debut album, Sentimental, via Ninja Tune's Counter Records. The album received positive critical reception and explored a wide range of sonic textures.[8]
