Carrie Welling (Born October 4, 1984) is an Americana country singer-songwriter based in Nashville, Tennessee.
Early life and education
She self-describes herself as a "military brat" who never felt rooted in any one place. She spent most of her childhood in Germany but eventually moved to the United States, where she lived with her mother and step-father in Colorado and traveled to Maryland every summer to visit her father. It was during these trips that she had the unique opportunity to record each year in his studio and fuel her passion for music.
With the support of her father, she started singing at 5 years old. The two wrote songs and performed in talent shows and in a choir.[1]
At the age of 18 she moved to New York City and studied musical theater at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy.[2]
Career
After she graduated from school, Carrie began her music career by responding to a Craigslist ad for a singer in a harmony band, the Vanity Belles.[1][2] The band's original concept was to be a crossover country act with Carrie and fellow singer Jessi Rae Waltz envisioned as "two small-town girls with big-city dreams". They developed their own style, which they referred to as "Cosmo Country". The duo released one EP entitled "Take Two".
After Vanity Belles broke up, Carrie moved to San Diego where she began her solo career. After several years she moved to Nashville, where she currently lives.
After her return to Nashville, she released a 5-track EP, The Edge, which was crowdfunded at Pledgemusic.[3]
She has been the opening act for David Cook and Delta Rae. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, she was scheduled to tour with Delta Rae. As of May 2020, the tour has been delayed until 2021. According to Forbes, Welling will use the online streaming platform StageIt to do a virtual tour in Summer 2020.[4]
In Summer 2020 she will be releasing her first full-length album, High Heels and Heavy Things, which was produced by Eric Holljes of Delta Rae.[5] Carrie has released 4 singles off of this album: "Good to Me," "Stand-Ins" (featuring Delta Rae), "Settle Me Down," and "Money." Carrie has also released an exclusive single "Flames" which is about facing your fears.[6]
In May 2020 the single "Good To Me" charted in the Top 10 of the Radio Guitar One online streaming platform.
