Celai West (born March 28, 2008) is an African-American pre-teen fashion model who promotes natural hair.[1] When she was eight years old she became the youngest ever model to walk in an otherwise all-adult New York Fashion Week show.[2]
Early life and education
West was born in 2008 in Sacramento, California and is the youngest of six children. She goes to school alongside on average five days a year modelling,[3] and hopes to attend Howard University.[4]
West had her first photo shoot when she was three years old after her parents were approached by a photographer at their local skating rink.[2][1]
Career
West was offered a modelling contract at the age of four but her parents did not sign it. Another offer was made when she was five and since she was finally able to communicate her love of modelling, her parents signed the contract.
When she was age seven she launched a business[dubious ] called 'The Chatty Chick', selling T-shirts with slogans to encourage children and adults to love themselves.[5]
In September 2016 when she was eight years old she became the youngest model to ever walk in an otherwise all-adult New York Fashion Week show when she walked for David Tupaz Couture in their opening show at Madison Square Garden.[2] She taught herself how to walk the catwalk but received coaching in runway etiquette and how to pose.[5][6]
In 2017 she modelled at Style Fashion Week held at the Pacific Design Center in Beverly Hills.[7]
In 2018, West began coaching others in runway modelling. She led the 'Curls, Catwalk and Confidence' class in London, as the face of World Afro Day on September 13, 2019.[3]
She has appeared in advertising, a music video and been cast in four short films.[8]
West's mother Linda Ligons-West manages her Instagram account,[4] which has 211,000 followers.
