Chamäleon is a German brand that was born in 1965, specialized in the manufacturing of materials for professional car body repair and protection.
History
The Chamäleon brand was first introduced by Motip Dupli, an experienced German putty manufacturer. In the beginning, Chamäleon putty products were mainly manufactured for the German DIY market. In a couple of years, it was decided to start focusing on the professional car refinish market and to concentrate on the export business. To achieve this, the company Chamäleon GmbH (Ltd.) was created and moved to its new headquarters in Heidelberg.
In 1947 the first factory was founded in Schwerte near Dortmund (Weber & Wirth Chemische Fabrik GmbH & Co.). The first polyester putty was produced at the factory in 1953. Integration of Weber & Wirth Chemie GmbH into Motip Dupli Group happened in 1998.
Entered into the world market
In 2000 Chamäleon GmbH renewed the production process and entered the foreign professional market. In 2002 Chamäleon GmbH entered the CIS market. In 2010 Chamäleon GmbH started to export the first products into the African market. In 2012 first Chamäleon products appeared on the South East Asia market. In 2016 Chamäleon entered the USA market and in 2018 started to export to Latin America.
Certified
Chamäleon GmbH works in accordance with international quality standards, ISO 9001: 2015. The company was certified by TÜV Thüringen.
Modern
Today Chamäleon production facilities are located in Germany (Schwerte, Hassmersheim) and in the Netherlands (Wolvega). The central administrative office is located in Heidelberg. The logistics facilities are located in Halle-Saale. It was decided to have the warehouse there instead of Heidelberg, because of its more central location closer to the seaports.
In 2021 Chamäleon updated the logo.
