Chandra Shekhar Dutta (born 31 July 1981) is a Indian actor and voice-over artist known for his work in Hindi films and Web series. He played the protagonist Sadhu in an experimental short film by Amit Dutta that won several national and international awards. His notable works include Amazon's Prime Video web series Laakhon Main Ek Season 2 (2019) in which he played the character of village head and Vinod Amre in Soumik Sen's Nakaab(2021). He gained popularity with his role in Neeraj Pandey's crime thriller web series Khakee: The Bihar Chapter[1] and role of preacher in Vipul Amrutlal Shah's The Kerala Story.[2][3]

Early life and education[edit]

Born to a Bengali family in Ranguni Basti, Bhuli, Dhanbad, Chandra did his schooling from Tata DAV School in Sijua before moving to New Delhi and started acting in theatres. Between 2001 - 2004, while studying acting he joined a degree college. He graduated in Bachelor’s in Arts (Hindi) in 2004 from Deoghar Vidyapeeth, Deoghar. In 2005, he received Diploma in Theatres from Shri Ram Centre for Performing Arts (SRC). After which he joined Repertory of Song and Drama Division of Indian Government. He, later, joined Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune. During his first year in FTII, Chandra Shekhar was awarded Jaya Bachchan Fellowship for Special Talent in Acting. He received the prestigious Junior Fellowship from Ministry of Culture and Arts,[4] India for his contribution in Theatre (year 2017 – 2019).

Career[edit]

Chandra started his acting journey as a theatre artist in Delhi. After pursuing Diploma in Theatres from Sri Ram Centre for Performing Arts he worked in numerous plays. He also worked in the Song and Drama division of the Indian government before he decided to move to Pune for two years to get a formal education in acting at FTII. After finishing his postgraduate course, he shifted his base to Mumbai to start his acting journey. He played the protagonist Sadhu in an experimental short film by Amit Dutta that won several national and international awards and was critically acclaimed.[5] He is also a part of Hindi feature film The Kerala Story(2003).
