Chathur Samarasinghe (born in 16 March 2001) is an Sri Lankan singer songwriter.

Biography[edit]

Chathur was born in 16 March 2001 at Galle. His first step to music was starting to learn playing the keyboard at the age of 5. As a child prodigy he became learning more about musical instruments. In the year 2008 he joined the junior music band in Thurstan College and took the Band Leadership in the year 2012. In the year 2014 he joined the Senior Brass band in Thurstan College and started playing the Saxophone. Throughout the years in his school time he was participated in many musical activities and took many awards related to music in his school.

Career[edit]

His first step in to singing was in the year 2011 as he was signed in as a backup singer in the dubbing unit of Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation. His first work as a backup singer was in the main theme song of the popular Sinhala dubbed Korean series Jewel in the Palace (popularly known as සුජාත දියනි in sri lanka) with the legendary sri lankan female singer the late Anjalin Gunathilaka. This theme song was an instant hit in sri lanka and many more korean dramas began to arrive to sri lanka for dubbing and telecasting. HIs first television appearance was in the year 2012 in Rupavahini Channel. He continued as a backup singer in the Rupavahini Corporation and he also was as a child voice actor. While doing all of this work he started learning to produce music on his own. He started recording and producing covers and he released his first single Dura Yai (දුර යයි) in the year 2021.

After graduating from high school he kept producing and Chathur started to play the Keyboards in a band he started with his friends called MIdlane. Midlane was an upcoming band in sri lanka and they got a chance to perform in a television program called Coke Red in the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation. After appearing in national Television Midlane slowly became popular and after Sajitha Anthony joined as a front man the band became more popular. After performing in Coke Red he then performed with Midlane in Tv Derana. While playing with Midlane he kept releasing more cover songs and began to create an audience in streaming platforms mostly outside Sri Lanka.
