Amar Chhina, simply known as Chhina, is a Canadian rapper, songwriter, and record producer, from Toronto, Canada[1] whose music puts a contemporary spin on classic hip hop. Chhina was a clan name in the 1600s for Punjabis. They were Sikh soldiers that were chosen to fight along with the Gods. They were highly sought after and praised, thus Chhina's name holds weight and suits him perfectly to position himself in the music industry.
Early life[edit]
Chhina wanted to get into music from a young age. He started experimenting with music in 7th grade, then dropped it. Kanye West’s works reignited his passion, and towards the end of 2015 he dove back into music and started to produce his own beats.
Chhina started off in his basement, using cheap equipment and working entirely on his own. He started off with just simple beats, after months of looking for people to rap over his beats, he decided to do it all himself. It took months of practice and learning to flow over different beats, but he then brought the beats to life with his voice and lyrics. He taught himself the whole process and within less than a year he released his Debut mixtape 'Shade'[2]

2016 - Shade[edit]
After months of keeping his music to himself, he decided to release a 16 track mixtape towards the end of 2016. 'Shade', dropped on November 8, 2016[1] includes the much-loved single “ What It Is”. The mixtape is a collection of Chhina’s life stories and the ups and downs he faced while trying to pursue a career in music.[3]
2016 - Guapo[edit]
At the end of 2016, following the release of China's debut mixtape, he left yet another mark ending the year with a hit single, 'Guapo'. The single was a way for Chhina to boast after the success of 'Shade' allowing people, as well as other artists that Chhina is one to be taken seriously. He says "As a young and unknown artist, the biggest challenge is getting people to hear the music when they have no clue who you are" and for Guapo, that clearly was not a problem.
2017 - Hollywood[edit]
After securing his spot in one of the most competitive industries with hits like Guapo and Toronto, he took on the new year with a new style and new flow. On January 27, 2017, Chhina released his 5 track EP titled 'Hollywood'. Hollywood follows the story of a girl who was abusing drugs and who is acting like someone else, hence the name Hollywood.
Influences[edit]
Drawing inspiration from rappers such as Kanye, Drake, Kendrick Lamar and Travis Scott, they gradually helped him hone his unique style. His music has a whole new sound and new vibe to it, yet with the elements of classical hip-hop and trap. Most of his tracks also have dark computerized beats, deep bass and a strong piano or violin lead [2]
