ClanBase

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

ClanBase (CB) was the largest esports league website in the world. ClanBase saw the light of day in October 1998 in the Netherlands as a Quake II ranking ("ladder") and then grew rapidly, conquering Europe. In 2004, the Global Gaming League (GGL) took over ClanBase.[1]

Most of the competitions on ClanBase are aimed at amateurs and are run as constantly running rankings (ladders) based on the elo principle. ClanBase also offers many cup competitions, such as the famous ClanBase EuroCup, one of the most prestigious online gaming championships, the ClanBase NationsCup, where nations compete for the title instead of clans, and the OpenCup, one of the greatest championships. ClanBase has nearly 2 million players and about 250,000 clans participating in the ladders and cups of dozens of different games.[2]

In the years before closure, ClanBase struggled with financial problems and difficult communication with owner GGL, which led to regular site outages in 2013. Since December 21, 2013, the ClanBase website has been permanently offline and only a farewell message from the staff remains.
