Cold Snap (abbreviated as CS) is a metal band from Varaždin, Croatia. Formed in 2003. by highschool friends, it started out as a mix of nu and groove metal. The band's discography includes three studio albums, one demo, and a number of music videos. The current lineup comprises Jan Kerekeš, Zoran Ernoić, Dario Berg, Dorian Pavlović, Zdravko Lovrić and Dario Sambol.

History[edit]

Formation[edit]

Formed in the spring of 2003. in Varaždin, Croatia by brothers Leo and Nino Friščić on guitars, drummer Denis Roškarić, bassist Zoran Ernoić and vocalist Danijel Ribič, and soon joined by second vocalist Jan Kerekeš, Cold Snap started as nu metal band out of a garage in their hometown. They recorded their first demo Mea Culpa in 2005., and they released it independently, personaly sending copies to fans.

Empty Promises[edit]

Their first studio album Empty Promises was recorded and released in 2008. through Croatia's Dancing Bear Records, for which they recieved the Zlatna Koogla award for the best new performer of the year, and played on Metalcamp (now Metaldays ) festival in Tolmin, Slovenia for the second time. They released music videos for Structure of Moshpit (filmed in Varaždin Arena), Insurrection and Bury The Hatchet. It was the best selling album for a week despite the fact the lyrics were in English. Vocalist Danijel Ribič left the band soon after to pursue a career in graphic design, and Jan Kerekeš was left the sole vocalist of the group.

Perfection[edit]

In 2010. they released their second album Perfection which was produced, mixed and mastered by renown metal producer and sound engineer Tue Madsen. Recorded in Morris Studio in Zagreb, and mixed and mastered in Denmark, it was released through MIG Music.[1]after the band members spent a week driving across Germany delivering the mastered album to various labels. They released music videos for the songs Bongo Bong, Snap, Genocide and Epizoda Osjećaja. Nino Friščić left the band soon after the release of the album over health and personal issues. He was replaced by Vlado Soldatek from Varaždin and they embarked on an European tour with Pro-Pain to promote the album.

World War 3[edit]

In 2012., the group participated in the Wacken Metal Battle and won a slot on the 2012. edition of the Wacken Open Air festival in Germany. [2]. They premiered the song Straight to Hell from the upcoming album on the festival and released a live video of the performance.

They recorded their third studio album, World War 3 in Morris Studio, Zagreb, in 2013. The album was once again produced, mixed and mastered by Tue Madsen. It was released independently in 2013., and through Eclipse Records in early 2015.[3] The album was promoted on two European tours, one them with the Hungarian metal band Ektomorf. Music videos for Rise Again, Monster, Silent Killer (which premiered on Bloody Disgusting) [4], Straight to Hell and Chameleon were released. The video for Monster was a target of contorversies[5] as it shows vocalist and actor Jan Kerekeš play a pedophile priest. It recieved the audience award for best music video at the Split Spot festival [6] Guitarist Vlado Soldatek left the band in 2014. and Leo Friščić remained the sole guitar player in the group. In the summer of 2016. they had to cancel their North American tour due to Leo Friščić, the remaining guitarist, leaving the band two weeks before the tour started.

All Our Sins[edit]

Dario Berg from the Banja Luka band Logic System Disorder was recruited as their second vocalist in September of 2016., and a few days later they held an audition for the new guitar player in the band. They chose both Zdravko Lovrić and Dorian Pavlović, from Stim and Monox respectively, to handle guitar duties. They presented the new members in a Facebook post on September 25th 2016. They signed a record deal with Arising Empire/Nuclear Blast [7] on December 19th that year. After just one concert with the new lineup, in Rijeka's cult club Palach, drummer Denis Roškarić, who was one of the forming members, left the group suddenly in January 2017. The next morning they recruited Dario Sambol from Uninvited and Frayn to the position of the drummer. After playing some regional shows for the first part of 2017., they embarked on their Arising Tour across Croatia, Austria, Germany and Czech Republic. On October 29th 2017. they announced they are now Hell Energy Drink [8] endorsed artists, due to their bad experiences with Monster Energy.

They started writing the new material in late summer and went on to record their fourth studio album All Our Sins in early January 2018. in Tue Madsen's studio in Aarhus, Denmark. It will be released worldwide in June 2018. through Arising Empire/Nuclear Blast.

Musical style and influences[edit]

Cold Snap's musical style is primarily described as nu metal and groove metal on their earlier releases, and melodic death metal, metalcore and thrash metal on their newer releases. While their earlier releases fall into the category of nu metal and groove metal, their 2018. album All Our Sins marks a shift in style and sound, due to the drastic lineup change. It focuses more on mixing melodic death metal guitars, catchy hooks and heavy hardcore breakdowns with their early nu metal groove.

Musical interests and influences of the band, as stated on multiple occasions, include Korn, Slipknot, In Flames, Static-X, At The Gates, The Haunted, Iron Maiden, Deathspell Omega, Decapitated, and many more, some of them not in the metal genre, such as pop-punk bands Fall Out Boy and Panic At the Disco.
