Cooking Art Industries Pte Ltd (doing business as Cooking Art) is a Singapore based company specialising in traditional Singapore confectioneries.[1]. Initially founded as a culinary school, Cooking Art Industries has since become a reputed food services establishment within Singapore’s hospitality industry[2].

History[edit]

1980s – 1990: Cooking Art as a Culinary Institution[edit]

Cooking Art Industries Pte Ltd began as one of Singapore’s first professional culinary schools, Cooking Art[1][2][3], in the 1980s. Under the leadership of Founder Esther-Kim Sim, an alumnus from The Wilton School of Cake Decoration and Confectionery Art[2], Cooking Art flourished and rapidly became a reputed culinary institution in Singapore[3]. Mrs Esther-Kim Sim was noted to be a member of the International Association of Culinary Professionals, The British Sugarcraft Guild, and area representative of the International Cake Exploration Societé[4].

Against the backdrop of Singapore’s nascent culinary industry, Cooking Art gained prominence as the knowledge centre of Singapore’s heritage delicacies[1]. The school offered an extensive array of courses taught by distinguished professional chefs[3] – including Nicholas Lodge, who was an official decorator for one of Princess Diana’s 24 wedding cakes, and Baba Jolly Wee, a veteran Peranakan chef.

1990 – Present: Cooking Art Industries as a B2B Food Manufacturer[edit]

Cooking Art saw that the booming local food industry presented a business venture opportunity[2]. Using the reservoir of knowledge amassed from its history as a culinary school, Cooking Art transitioned into a food manufacturer – adopting the registered legal name, Cooking Art Industries, on June 2, 1990[4].

Positioning itself as a knowledge centre for Singapore heritage delicacies[2], Cooking Art Industries has serviced a broad range of entities stretching from luxury hotels and concierges to hospitals, schools and corporations[2][5]. Cooking Art Industries has also been involved in various partnership projects such as a collaboration with Raffles Hotel for its overseas Singapore food promotions and the Ritz-Carlton Millennia for its wedding fairs[2].

In 1988, Cooking Art Industries launched Rainbow Lapis as its retail arm[2] - a brand that fiercely advocates the preservation and celebration of Singapore local heritage delicacies[6].

Recognition & Awards[edit]

  • On 3 June 2014, the Singapore Packaging Agreement Governing Board awarded Cooking Art Industries with a Merit Award in recognition of its commendable efforts to reduce packaging waste[2][7]
  • On 14 March 2016, Cooking Art Industries was certified as fully compliant to international standards for food management systems, ISO 22000.[2]
