Cyrillization of Arabic

Cyrillization of Arabic is the transcription or transliteration of text written in Arabic script into the Cyrillic script. Because of the Arabic script being written as an Abjad (a writing system involving the absence of vowels), an accurate transliteration into Cyrillic, an Alphabet, would take considerable prior knowledge of the subect language and a full understanding of the Arabic script. However, the following system is based on its Latin equivalent and was primarily used during the era of the Soviet Union for the convenience of Arabs living in its constituent territories, particularly the Caucasus and Central Asian areas.
