Damali Ssali (born on 15th September 1984) is a Ugandan Afro-optimist author and accountant and she is an Advisory Board Member of the African Council for Trade, Tourism, and Investment (AfCOTTI). She is also a member of the Africa List, Founder and CEO of Ideation Corner and a HiPipo Foundation Board member as of March 2022.[1][2][3][4][5]She is regarded as a mentor ,keynote speaker and facilitator for many youth engaged activities. Early Life And Education[edit]
Damali is the daughter of the late Elizabeth Nalunkuuma Ssali Lule and Kirizestomu Basi Ssali Lule. She completed her primary education at Nakasero Primary School (P1–P3) and Buganda Road Primary School (P4–P7). After completing her primary education, she enrolled in Makonzi Senior Secondary School to complete her O'level coursework. She then transferred to Bugema Seventh Day Adventist School to complete her A-level education offering Mathematics, Economics and Geography. She enrolled for ACCA at Management Accountancy Training (MAT) at Nakawa and later went to UK. She attained her Master’s in Business Administration, from France’s Grenoble Graduate Business School, with a specialization in Innovation and Technology Management. Damali is also an accountant and a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants ( FCCA), an Alumna of Harvard Business school where she specialized in Executive Leadership.[2][7]
Career[edit]
Damali started her career in the United Kingdom(UK) before becoming a financial analyst.She worked as a Finance Director in the financial services industry, in the City of London before relocating to Uganda in 2013 after the death of her mother in 2012. After relocating to Uganda, she started working with Trademark East Africa (TMEA) after attaining her MBA. In 2019, she started to engage with the Ugandan fintech community in an effort to raise the profile of informal cross border trade to the fintech developers so that technological solutions that address the challenges in this sector could be developed. She retired from her position as Uganda East African Director on August 19th, 2021, after eight years of service, and in the same year, in November, Women's Entrepreneurship Day Organization (WEDO) appointed Damali as Uganda's Ambassador to take the lead on women's empowerment and poverty alleviation.[8][9][10] The WEDO Ambassadors work globally to spearhead the WEDO mission and message of empowering women and girls to be active participants in the economy by empowering a network of women leaders, innovators and entrepreneurs to inaugurate startups, drive economic expansion and improve communities around the world.[11][12][13]Damali also Joined the Private sector foundation of Uganda(PSFU) as Chief Programs and Projects officer in-charge of Program Management Unit (PMU) reporting to the CEO.[14][15][16] She also supports the delivery of cross-border trade facilitation at Uganda's five border posts, Malaba, Busia, Mutukula, Mirama Hills, and Elegu, in collaboration with the Ministry of Works and Transport. She also contributed to the start-up of the Gulu Logistics Hub, as well as the Ntoroko Lake Pot and Goli Border Posts, as well as the two border posts with the DRC. Damali additionally assisted in the shipment of the regional electronic cargo tracking system and the single window for Uganda Electric from Mombasa Port to Dar-es-Salam Port. Additionally, she will begin production on the "we will win iniative," a project supported by HiPipo and the ideation corner that aims to advance the expansion and development of the Ugandan film industry, on March 22, 2022.[14]

Women-in-FinTech Hackathon & Summit[edit]
A summit and hackathon for women in fintech were held in September 2020. It was intended, and continues to be intended, to act as a catalyst for women to take up their rightful position in the FinTech development ecosystem. Participating teams, comprised of 15 women, were mentored, given Level One Principles training, and given the opportunity to develop their ideas into FinTech solutions.[17][18]
40 Days 40 FinTechs[edit]
This project started on May 13, 2020, and was held in the Kampala Sheraton Hotel on July 15 and 16, 2020. NTV Uganda and Smart 24 TV both carried a live stream of it.[19] The initial 40 Days 40 FinTechs program, which was run in conjunction with Crosslake Tech, ModusBox, and the Mojaloop Foundation and brought together 40 African-based financial technology companies with an emphasis on women-led FinTechs, was supported by The Gates Foundation. In July 2021, the Second Season officially began.[20][21][22]
