Maria Nassali is a Ugandan lawyer, academic, human rights activist and a feminist. She is the vice chairperson board of governors at Nabagereka Foundation.[1]
Background and education[edit]
Maria Nassali was born and raised in Bwaise in Kampala district in Uganda. She completed her Uganda certificate of Education at Mt. Mary's Namagunga and obtained her Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education at Gayaza High School.[2] She accomplished her degree in Law from Makerere University,[3] Uganda, and a master's degree in Law and Development from Warwick University in the United Kingdom . She holds a PhD in Law from the University of Pretoria in South Africa.[4] She is also a Gender and Human Rights specialist.
Career[edit]
Nassali is the former Executive Director of FIDA Uganda.[5][6] Nassali has developed resource materials and undertaken action research aimed at guiding law and policy.[7]
She is the Executive Director of Kituo Cha Katiba,[4] the East African Centre for Constitutional Development. She has been active in the area of Sexual and Reproductive Rights of women and girls, especially ensuring that impunity is not tolerated where Sexual Violence is concerned.
She is also the vice chairperson of Nabagereka Foundation. In 2019, she represented Nabagereka Foundation, as the vice chairperson board of governors at the festival under UNAA (Ugandan North America association). With theme of “Ugandans to celebrate their heritage in New York", an event that run from August 29 to September 2, 2019 and took place at the iconic Grand Hyatt in New York.[8]
