Dane Chung
Dane Chung (born May 28, 1988), is a South African/Asian Author who was born and raised in Johannesburg. He is best known for his Arch’s Hallow series of books. The author released his debut novel ‘Arch's Hallow volume 1’ in September 2018 and since has published 13 novels ending in the year 2022. Credited for writing in numerous genres like historical romances, crime and psychological thrillers, fantasy, LGBTQ and most recently, comedic screenplays, the writer has made a name for himself on the international scene.
Dane enjoys kickboxing and playing violin when he is not outdoors hiking and travelling. He often dedicates his time to reading and education awareness and importance for young children and youth, promoting healthy reading.
Early life and education
Dane Chung started a modelling career at the age of 17 as a means to pay for his schooling. After completing high school in 2006 with the fourth highest pass in the Johannesburg South District, the author took a few years to explore his writing and he continued with his modelling career. At the age of 26 the author was completing his Bachelor Degree in Business Management whilst working in a high-ranking position as a Projects and Operations Manager at one of South Africa’s largest document storage facilitating companies.
Dane walked away from the corporate world in 2017 and briefly managed several book shops before committing fully to his writing.
Philanthropic work
The author has actively spoken out on his bisexuality and is a supporter of LGBTQ rights, but it was his involvement with the UN Refugee initiative, through the Luquluqu ‘step for safety’ walk in February of 2019 that he committed to passionately. The march was in support of millions of men, women and children who are daily forced to flee their homes all across Africa because of violence and political conflict.
In early 2020 the author was diagnosed with cancer and cancelled all book releases for that year and went on a social media hiatus during the duration of his treatment. In 2021 the author returned to the book scene and by early 2022 he publicly spoke out about his experiences in fighting cancer and competed in a 10km ran initiative for awareness and support of cancer victims.
These days the author is focusing primarily on reading and education awareness with young children and youth and he is usually found promoting ‘reading’ and donating books to children’s homes and community libraries and having sit-down readings with children in bookstores.
Writing career
Dane Chung predominantly writes fiction and is currently self-publishing. With the author gaining traction in many bookstores countrywide within South Africa, Dane Chung's novels are both available in e-book as well as paperback on Amazon.com and have been further distributed into large chain store globally, like Barnes & Noble in the USA and Waterstones in Europe.
Dane’s Arch's Hallow series has been picked up for further distribution in Australia and the Netherlands and in July of 2020 the series reached Bestseller status in the author’s home country, South Africa.
The author’s general fiction novel ‘The Lighthouse’ was long listed for the 2020 UK Storyteller book of the year award and his highest grossing novel to date is his psychological horror thriller ‘Charlie Puppet’.
In early 2022 the author surprised his readers by writing a screenplay for television called ‘Father’s Anonymous’. A fictional comedy drama that used his real life friends as characters. Amazon released a novelization for the screenplay and the success of the first season of the screenplay has guaranteed three more books in the series to be released in the future. There has been no official statement on who the screenplay rights for television production has been sold to as yet.
The Underverse
The author has publicly released a list of 33 novels set for release in the coming years, all of which are part of The Underverse, while another 6 novels will be written exclusively apart from the Underverse ‘universe’.
“The Underverse has been something I have been working on for a couple of years now and I am truly excited to be sharing it with my fans and readers. I have written and I am still writing various novels over a vast array of genres that are all connected in this universe, yet each novel can be read as a standalone or as part of its series or trilogy. It has taken hours upon hours of work and effort to create this universe where storylines continue and overlap, characters appear in several novels and yet at the same time, allowing a reader to still enjoy the full experience of reading one book on its own.”
