Darro (musician)
Darro Chea (DAIR-oh CHEE-uh, born February 16th, 1993) also known mononymously as Darro, is an emo and pop-punk Asian-American singer-songwriter, guitarist and producer from York, PA.[1]. Darro's musical style is described as alt-rock infused with with catchy pop melodies[2]. His debut extended play (EP) Nostalgia was released in 2017.[3]

On July 19th, 2019, Darro released his single "You're Not Insane" gaining attention surrounding his battle with a brain tumor.[4][5] "You're Not Insane" peaked at #18 on the iTunes Top Pop Songs and #46 across all genres in Brazil.[6] He released a music video for "You're Not Insane" on August 20th, 2019[7] and received attention on Billboard.[8] On November 13th, 2020, Darro released his first full-length studio album Songs of Recovery, which peaked at #18 on the iTunes Top Rock Albums Chart, and #115 on the iTunes Top Albums Chart in the U.S.[9] Songs of Recovery also peaked on several MCR charts hitting #8 on Alternative New Artist Albums, #40 on Current Alternative Albums, and #34 on Top New Artist Albums.[10] Darro was also featured in the January 2021 issue of Music Connection Magazine in the Song Biz section.[11]
On May 7th, 2021, Darro released his first single with producer Kris Crummett called "Signing Out" which charted at #75 on the iTunes Rock Singles Chart.[12][13] In July 2021, Darro was featured in Alternative Press as an "up-and-coming solo artist".[14]
Darro attended Berklee College of Music and is also a producer, engineer and session guitarist and has worked with Hoax (band),[15][16] Andrea Martin, and Kat Cunning.[17]
Musical Style and Influences[edit]
Darro is primarily labeled an emo and pop-punk artist. His musical style has been described as having "poppy melodies and crafty guitars" while tapping into the realm of progressive and pop-rock.[18] Darro has cited Paramore, My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Maroon 5, John Mayer, Steve Vai, Frank Ocean, Bruno Mars, SZA, and Daniel Caesar as musical and songwriting influences.[19][20]
