Drag Idol 2023
Drag Idol is the biggest (non-televised) drag competition in the UK. Starting in 2006, for over 17 years Drag Idol has been an annual event held in Newcastle’s most popular venues such as Switch, Diary’s and Boulevard.
The competition consists of drag artists fighting it out for a series of weeks for the chance to win the crown, alongside a cash prize as well as a coveted spot on the MainStage of UK Pride. Each week has a different theme, to challenge the contestants to make them think of unique and original concepts for each performance. Recurring themes include Disney week, Props week, live week (where they just speak on a microphone and entertain the audience) as well as duos week (working with a fellow contestant).
Drag Idol 2023 consisted of 5 heats and a spectacular finale, starting on the 19th of March 2023, starting with 22 contestants, all of which were chosen out of the thousands of applicants.
