Drew Thomas (born Andrew Thomas Cardellichio, October 10, 1971) is an American rock drummer from NYC.[1]
Career[edit]
Drew Thomas began performing live in 1985 with Crippled Youth, recording the "Join The Fight" EP before the band changed the name to Bold (band). His meeting early on with John Porcelly and Ray Cappo at the first Crippled Youth show led him to filling in live with Youth of Today in '85-'86 and recording "Break Down the Walls". He left Youth of Today in late '86 and continued to play with Bold (band) until 1989 recording "Speak Out (album)" and a self-titled 7" EP.
After graduating high school Thomas formed Into Another (band) with Richie Birkenhead, who he had known for awhile in the hardcore scene and played with briefly in Youth of Today. Bringing in guitarist Peter Moses and bass player Tony Bono of Whiplash (band), they continued to play together from 1990-1997. They released recordings on Revelation Records, notably "Ignaurus" in 1994. In 1995 they were signed to Hollywood Records on which they recorded "Seemless" and a full-length unreleased album known as "Soul Control". Conflicts between the band and Hollywood Records as well as inner turmoil would lead to their dissolution in 1997. In 2012 they reformed for the Revelation Records 25th Anniversary shows. Along with Thomas, Birkenhead and Moses; Brian Balchack (guitar) and Reid Black (bass) were brought in to complete the lineup. They recorded the "Omens" EP in 2015 and continue to play live in that formation.
Thomas went on to form The New Rising Sons the same year Into Another disbanded, with Garrett Klahn of Texas is The Reason, who he had known through performing on many shared bills. They filled out the line up with Kevin McGinnis on guitar/vocals and Scott Beschta from the Promise Ring on bass. After releasing a self titled indie EP they were quickly signed to Virgin Records and recorded a full-length album titled "Set it Right." They were abruptly dropped before the record was released and the album remained unavailable until 2019 when it was released on Arctic Rodeo Recordings. The band broke up fairly soon after being dropped from Virgin.
Throughout the 2000's Thomas has played with several different projects. After a brief time in Brooklyn based electronica outfit Aerial Love Feed, he played with Walter Schreifels in Walking Concert beginning in 2005. Proceeding that he played in God Fires Man with Arty Shepherd (Errortype: Eleven, Gay For Johnny Depp) and Joseph Grillo (Garrison, Gay For Johnny Depp) both recently finished with the band Instruction. Between 2006 and 2010 they performed together and went on to record two albums "A Billion Balconies Facing the Sun" and "Life Like." After the demise of God Fires Man, Thomas continued to play live with Walter Schreifels solo, eventually forming Dead Heavens in 2013 with Schreifels, Nathan Aguilar from Cults, and Paul Kostabi from Psychotica and White Zombie. After releasing a few independent 7" singles, a full length album "Whatever Witch You Are" was released on Dine Alone Records in 2017.
