Duane Wilkins is a geospatial advocate from Wellington, New Zealand.

In 2020 he received "Te Tohu Ratonga Tūmatanui | New Zealand Public Service Medal[1][2] for "his commitment to increasing Māori communities’ geospatial information[3] science knowledge"[4].

He contributed more than one million images to Google Maps’ Streetview. It made Lower Hutt one of the world’s most photographed places on Google Maps[5] by sharing 360 view images, and is the subject of a Google documentary[6].

He is a judge for the New Zealand Spatial Excellence Awards[7], and was nominated Spatial Professional for the Year 2019 [8]for his work with indigenous Māori communities throughout New Zealand[9] for work involving geospatial capability building, training, and support.

In 2007-2011 he directed the city mapping project capability development programmes for USAID[10] for the United States Agency for International Development throughout Iraq[11] and Afghanistan.

He is a mapping capability leader for Land Information New Zealand, and contributor to NZ Survey and Spatial Magazine.[12] He makes large mapping activities for New Zealand intermediate students.[13] as part of the LEARNZ Virtual Field Trip[14] series "Map My Waahi".[15] Waahi - a Te Reo Māori word for Place.
