Ecobranding

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Ecobranding is an eco-design brand process and a brand design consultancy based in Paris.

Origins[edit]

In October 2017, the Parisian designer Sylvain Boyer launched Ecobranding, an eco-design brand methodology.[1][2] In 2018, he created the company, ‘Ecobranding’ as well as the Ecobranding foundation with his mentors Oliver Bontemps and David Jobin, co-founders of Royalties branding agency.[3]

Characteristics[edit]

Ecobranding is characterized by different graphic processes of eco-design.[4]

• Eco-logo: The logotypes and symbols are devised to be ecological while also having a maximum visual impact. The colors of the logotypes have a limited total ink coverage, the printable surface of the symbols is reduced, shapes are simple, producing light digital files that occupy little server space and reduce the energy consumption of the logotypes when displayed on web and mobile applications.[5][6]

• Eco-Colors: colors with a maximum total ink coverage of 100%, minimising the quantity of ink used.

• Eco-typo: Typographies designed to save ink and paper and using “variable font” technology to reduce the weight of Internet files and to limit energy consumption.

• Eco-graphics: templates, editorials, signage that uses less ink, less paper and less energy while maintaining a strong visual impact.

• Eco-imagery: photos and/or illustrations that use less ink, less digital server space and less energy.

• Eco-interface: All user interface which reduces server space and limits energy consumption, owing notably to the use of dark mode and a minimalist website architecture.

• Eco-packaging: All packaging designed to limit environmental costs: production, transport, recycling.

Dark mode[edit]

In early 2018, the Ecobranding agency presented the first concept of a black background interface to reduce energy consumption on smartphones with OLED screens. By 2019, Google, Apple and Samsung had all adopted the "Dark mode" a Light-on-dark color scheme to save energy consumption on OLED Screens.[7]

Work[edit]

Citeo is the new brand resulting from the merger of the two main eco-organizations in France, Eco-Emballages & Ecofolio. These companies are in charge of sorting, collecting and recycling waste. Citeo was the first brand to use Ecobranding principles.[8]

Paris 2024 Olympic Emblem and its custom typeface has been designed by Ecobranding agency and its partner brand consulting agency Royalties.[9]
