Eduard Locota (born 12 July 1985) is a Romanian-based contemporary artist currently living in Timisoara city. He represent a distinctive and important part of the furniture design avant-garde of the 21st century, that work actively at the crossroad of the permeability between sculpture and design. With a Sculpture degree from Timisoara School of Arts, and a M.F.A. in Sculpture from Western University of Timisoara. Locota became notable in the press starting in the year 2014 for his unique combinations of materials. He was the pioneer in creating the resin-wood lamps that are now replicated by millions worldwide, launching a global trend in interior design and DIYs around the globe. Another breakthrough happened just one year after the resin-wood lamp series, with his sculpture-furniture while developing a unique technique by fusing marble with Acrylic Glass.piece; named "DelMare Table" From the same "DelMare Collection", the artist took yet again the spotlight with his monolithic sculptural furniture design piece weighing over one tone "Crete Table", using the same technique pioneered by mixing marble and resin.[1]
Locota is founder of a sculpture and design firm, Eduard Locota Sculpture Studio that runs out of his Timisoara studio. His works now belong to royal families, Forbes 100 companies, and private collectors worldwide.[2]
Biography[edit]
Eduard Locota was born in Vulcan city, Romania, in 12 July 1985. After the Romanian Revolution of 1989 he moved with his family in Belgium, before finally returning back to Romania. Strongly influenced by his painter father, he grew a passion for the arts, starting with graphics and design in high school, pioneering local computer 3D modeling, and finally culminating with sculpture and design.[3]
Recent projects[edit]
"LO Contemporary"[4] curatorial art space and Art gallery that highlights artists from Eastern Europe, featuring a carefully selected collection of artworks and exclusive avant-garde furniture design pieces.[5]
"Carbon" collection, the piece deal with the specific case of "coal" and it's crucial part in the world economy, from the margins of the undeveloped world to the edge of the most advanced countries. The artist try of reinterpreting the function of fossil fuel, that actually go ahead of recycling, towards an active transformation of the material, in an attempt to predict the future of coal and similar fossil-fuels.[6]
"DelMare" collection, Locota creates unique furniture pieces that portrays various landscapes of land and sea through an unique sculptural perspective. Artworks that became sculptures in surrealism, by fusing marble with colored Acrylic Glass[7].[8]
"Lumiere" collection, represent his pioneering technique in creating the resin-wood lamps that are now replicated by millions of people worldwide. He has helped launching a global trend in interior design and DIYs around the globe with his wood-resin creations.[9]
"Eduard Locota Sculpture Studio" In his studio, Locota audit form and function, combining together materials like wood, stone, jesmonite, metal, acrylic glass,etc into a unique aesthetic. Eduard Locota is working in the avant-garde of contemporary design, being actively involved in the research and production of extremely limited edition works, that are not found anywhere else in the world[10].[11]
