Education Matrix
EdMatrix is a four layer meta framework created by Brandt Redd in September 2011[1] to describe the web of technical standards and design needs to support an education technology infrastructure. The framework recognizes that data interoperability requires multiple layers of standards supporting a Solution stack and that various standards serve different purposes. Education technology relies on a web of standards and structures that allow for the education technology to exist. [2]. In EdMatrix, the layers are:
- Data Dictionary (and data vocabulary) Standards
- Logical Data Model (or Schema) Standards
- Serialization Standards
- Protocol Standards (communications protocols and interface methods shared between components of a distributed system)
Redd later developed the EdMatrix.org website as a public resource to show where the various standards fit by layer in the solution stack.
