Ekar (carsharing app)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

ekar is Middle East's first car sharing operator. It provides short-term mobility services and is headquartered in Dubai.[1][2][3][4]

History[edit]

In 2016, Etihad Airways faced a unique problem, its crew members struggled to get reliably from Dubai International airports and ekar was formed. It was founded by Vilhelm Hedberg with just 15 cars in its fleet to provide transportation services to Etihad Airways crew members.[5][6]

In 2017, Dubai Roads and Transport Authority selected ekar to launch the same initiative for all residents of Dubai by increasing its car fleet size to 100.[7][8]

Abu Dhabi's government-owned renewable energy company, Masdar has partnered with ekar to bring electric vehicle car-sharing to the Middle East in 2019.[9]

The company added 500,000 cars to its fleet in May 2021.[10] After adding such numbers, Ekar become the largest car rental company in UAE.[11]

ekar partnered with Dubai-based SellAnyCar in June 2022.[12] As per Forbes, ekar is the top 50 most funded startups of MENA region.[13]
