Emily Owen, Labour candidate for Aberconwy
Ms Owen is a Labour Party candidate in the Aberconwy constituency at the United Kingdom general election 2017. During the election campaign she received significant press overeager following claim that she received sexist abuse.
Early life[edit]
Emily Owen is originally from Bury in Greater Manchester. She was elected to Conwy County Council aged 21 while studying at Bangor University.[citation needed]
2017 General Election campaign[edit]
Ms Owen stood against Conservative Welsh Minister Guto Bebb during the campaign. She received a number of sexist and abusive messages on social media before taking a stand. Her story was extensively covered in the national press and the abuse she suffered was widely condemned. [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10]
