Fábula Producciones S.A., simply known and doing business as Fábula, is a Chilean film and television production company and advertising agency founded by filmmakers Pablo Larraín and his brother Juan de Dios Larraín.[1]
It is an audiovisual and visual content production company, with more than 900 commercials created with films that were mostly nominated for Oscars and Golden Globes as well as from other festivals like the Cannes, Sundance, Berlin, Venice, and Toronto festivals.
History
Business
The company first started business in 2006 since their foundation on May 5, 2004, by the Larraín brothers and produced their debut film Fuga was released on March 30, 2006 as also their debut production which received critical acclaim. .
In July 2006, Fábula developed their second production Life Kills Me with shots inside Chile[2], and had a world premiere at the 3rd Santiago International Film Festival on August 17, 2007, but for ten years, it was not ready to be released until its commercial release announced to be on November 1, 2017.[3]
Fábula partnered with studio Prodigital to produce Tony Manero starring Alfredo Castro, Mateo Iribarren, and Pablo Larraín and was released on May 17, 2008 in the Cannes Film Festival and later August 28, 2008 in theaters at Chile.[4]
According to the On Off magazine, they said that "during the Toronto International Film Festival, Carlos Hensen, one of the owners behind the film distribution company BF Distribution, and Juan de Dios Larraín, producer and actor of films such as Tony Manero, talked about the idea of making a comedy in Chile". Hansen, whose shareholders, had seen the Canadian comedy Young People Fucking there, told Larraín about the film, which they got together and saw at weeks later. They acquired rights to the film, and once the script was adapted, both agreed that the best director for a sexual comedy of this peculiar type would have been Artiagoitía, protagonist of The Sentimental Teaser and director of its successful part named Radio Corazón.[5]
The film Grade 3 was hit for release in Chile on July 9, 2009.[6]
Canana Films contracted Fábula to produce the film Post Mortem. The film was released at the Venice International Film Festival[7] on September 5, 2010 and later for the Netflix streaming service.
In 2011, Fábula was honored and nominated for an International Emmy Award for their debut television series Prófugos for HBO and it had two seasons directed by Pablo.[8]
