Ogilvy CommonHealth Asia Pacific (OCH AP) is a Singapore-based healthcare communications firm specialising in advertising, public relations, and marketing for pharmaceutical and medical companies in Asia and Oceania.[3] It is a subsidiary of British-American advertising and public relations agency Ogilvy & Mather.

The company currently has operations in South East Asia, India Mainland China, Hong Kong (China), and Australia.[1]

Background[edit]

Ogilvy CommonHealth Asia Pacific was formed in 2012 [3] successfully consolidating Ogilvy & Mather's healthcare operations in the Asia Pacific region, which previously consisted of multiple brands including CommonHealth, Ogilvy Health and Ogilvy Healthworld[1] as a result of several market acquisitions.

Ogilvy CommonHealth Asia Pacific (OCH AP) is specifically focused on unifying the WPP Group's healthcare communication businesses across the Asia pacific region.[4]

OCH AP attempts to approach the idea of healthcare communication from a less eurocentric view than the general outlook taken by the industry in general[5]. Regional Director Rohit Sahgal addressed the health aspects of phenomena such as the Kumbh Mela and the annual mass transfer of population from urban to rural areas in China around lunar new year, stating that they need to be viewed in the context of their roots in Asian values[6]. As such, he aims to centre the company around the goal of finding "a new way" to approach the industry in Asia in order to uncover... insight[s] that [are] universal in application" in the Asia Pacific region [5]

Notable activities[edit]

Aspen[edit]

In 2014, OCH AP organised a major advertisement campaign for Aspen in Australia.[7]

Pharmacies[edit]

In April 2015, the company released a report titled "The Power of Pharmacy", suggesting that pharmacies may in the future increase in significance to the extent of overshadowing the role played by doctors and other medical specialists in the pharmaceutical industry.[8]

Digitalisation in the pharmaceutical industry[edit]

In 2015, the company collaborated with Econconsultancy and Ogilvy Red, releasing research showing that less than 5% of pharmaceutical organisations made digitalisation a priority.[9] The report claimed that this is significantly lower than other industries,[10] backing up a variety of industry research in encouraging pharmaceuticals to prioritise the digitalisation of the industry.[11][12] Digitalisation of the pharmaceutical industry has similarly been supported by Dr Mrinalini Darswal, Food Safety Commissioner & Drugs Controller of Delhi,[13] India being one of OCH AP's larger markets.

Breast Cancer[edit]

OCH AP made a video, titled "The Silent Couple", for Phillips India as part of a cancer awareness campaign.[14] The video aimed to encourage men to do more household work, so women in India would have more time to be aware of their health.[15]

Pfizer[edit]

OCH AP has been involved with pharmaceutical agency Pfizer in the marketing of its antacid to chemists, Gelusil. Rana Bawa, country manager of OCH AP in India was quoted as saying that Pfizer "will have to engage with chemists for promotions."[16]

Mind Resource[edit]

In 2011, whilst in the process of forming OCH AP, Ogilvy & Mather acquired the Hong Kong-based company Mind Resource.[17][18] This resulted in the company expanding its presence in China, which is in the process of reforming[19] its pharmaceutical industry. As a result, OCH AP has focused significantly on its market in the country, capitalising on the country's unique regulatory system[20] to market its services to foreign clients.[17][21]
