Some critics argue that Fayهz Mahmud plagiarized the writings of others and included them in his writing texts publicly.[6] In the Cultural Attaché of the Jordanian newspaper Al-Rai, Friday 4/4/2000 edition, Syrian thinker Sobhi Hadidi says: Fayiz Mahmud published an article entitled "Myth and Meaning (Strauss)” (original title: al-ʾusṭūrati wālmaʿnā (shutarāwisu), which amounted to 965 words, in the census of the computer he used, there wasn’t any original work except, his own writing amount to less than ... 60 words! Other than this, the text is entirely copied from the famous French anthropologist Claude Levi Strauss's "Myth and Meaning", which I had the honour of translating into Arabic and its first edition was published in 1985.[6]

Death[edit]

Fayiz Mahmud suffered an unfortunate accident in which he broke one of the back vertebrae, despite the health and life conditions that befell him in recent years, he was persistent in continuing to write,[7][8] and months later, the writer died at dawn on Tuesday 7/12/2011,[3] alone and neglected in the University of Jordan hospital due to a severe heart attack, where he was waiting for a prison sentence for not paying the rent.[9] Saud Kabyat, points out that the poor conditions suffered by the late Fayiz Mahmud,[10] he says: I know that his life was difficult and his living conditions were harsh, and this is unfortunate especially for a well-known writer like Fayez Mahmoud, this is the responsibility of society and the state, this should be a lesson for the future to not to leave any writer or creator in such a bad situation, and it is offensive to the reputation of the country that intellectuals, thinkers and writers suffer from such painful circumstances which Fayez Mahmoud has always long suffered from.[3][11] The Minister of Culture, Samawi, mourned the late writer, stressing that the Jordanian cultural community had lost a creator, thinker and intellectual who contributed to the Arab library's many books that cares about a variety of fields of thought, creativity and knowledge.[12][13][14] He enriched the Jordanian Library and the Arab Library with the novels of his works and to al-Rai newspaper he was one of its most prestigious writers.[9]
