Friedrich Mülln (2022)

Friedrich Mülln (born January 1980 in Lörrach, Germany) is a German animal rights activist, author and co-founder of the non-profit organization Soko Tierschutz.

Mülln discovered his interest in nature as a schoolboy and began to get involved in the protection of animals in factory farming. When he saw a documentary about piglet castration at the age of 13, he decided to live vegan. His first research results were published in TV magazine programs while he was still at school. During and after his political studies, he worked as a contract investigator for large animal welfare organizations in Germany and abroad.[1]

On October 14, 2008, Friedrich Mülln received the "Solbach-Freise Foundation's Civil Courage Award" for his many years of courageous work against factory farming and other cruelty to animals, and in particular for his successful legal dispute over freedom of expression with the Covance group.[2] In 2012 he founded the Soko Tierschutz association, which uncovered numerous scandals in farms, test laboratories and slaughterhouses. In 2018, Soko Tierschutz was awarded the "taz Panther Prize".[3]

A case against Mülln, according to which he received a penalty order of over 3,500 euros, because he had used covertly recorded video material about live plucking of geese or "about the cruelty to animals in the production of bed feathers and down" (according to the indictment) in TV reports August 2014 for a payment of 1500 euros to the Munich animal shelter after consultation with his lawyer.[4][5]

In 2019 he was nominated for the Federal Cross of Merit.[6]
