Dr. Ganga Ram Nirvan, a social worker and freedom fighter of India, belonged to Scheduled Caste (Khatik), died on 30, August, 2009 at the age of 90. He urged Khatik people to come into politics.[1][2] He was the founding member of Akhil Bhartiya Khatik Samaj.
Student leader[edit]
He was student of Tibbia College, he raised voice of dalit students and give memorandums to college against dalit atrocities. for this act, he was fired from Tibbia College.[2]
After seeing his struggle, the first Chief Minister of Delhi, Brahm Prakash helped him to get re-admission. Therefore, Mr. Brahm Prakash, came into his direct contact.
Followers of Ambedkar[edit]
In 1961, Quami Musafir Baba Prabhati introduced him to Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. After that, he started observing and following Baba Saheb's education regularly. After seeing his strength, integrity and fighting, he was made the President of the Delhi Pradesh Republican Party. Dr. Gangaram Nirvan worked hard in Delhi and made party strong.
After death of Baba Saheb Ambedkar, in 1962, Dada Saheb Gaikwad started a movement to establish Baba Saheb's statue in Parliament house to give respect to our constitution maker. BP Mourya is leading the movement in North India, while Baba Prabhati with Dr. Gangaram Nirvan leading in Delhi.
Millions of people joined the campaign “Jail Bharo Abhiyan” to give tribute to Baba Saheb. That time there was no place in prison, so many schools were used as prison. Manvari Devi (mother of Gangaram) also gave her arrest.
Finally, Baba Prabhati and his team Gangaram Nirvan, Ramkishan Rajaura, Ramchandra Baswala, Harvansh Rajaura, Harishchandra Thagela, Chaudhary Pannalal Badsiwal, Prabhudayal Rajaura and Ramdev Bhilwara won as big statue of Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar was established in Parliament House.[3] Every year millions of people go to pay homage to their beloved leader Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar on 14 April 6 December.[4]
Early life & occupation[edit]
He served as medical practitioner in Karol Bagh, Delhi from 1944 to 1969 after that he shifted to Madipur. He diagnosis free of cost for needy people.
Political career[edit]
After strengthening the Republican Party's root in Delhi he itself contested in 1962 parliamentary elections while slogan was popular in Delhi "बटन खोलो छाती के, मोहर लगेगी हाथी पे" [5] Dr. Gangaram participated in various parliamentary elections, but not succeed and he helped others to succeed.
