Gigamon Inc. is an American network security and visibility software company headquartered in Santa Clara, California. Founded in 2004 by Denny Miu and five co-founders, the company develops technology that provides network traffic monitoring and data visibility across corporate IT infrastructure.[1]
History
Gigamon was founded in 2004 as Gigamon Systems, LLC by former UCLA professor Denny Miu alongside five co-founders.[1] The company launched its first network traffic-monitoring appliance, the GigaVUE-421, in 2008 and converted to a corporation in 2009 as Gigamon Inc.[1] Between 2009 and 2011, the company expanded its operations internationally across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.[1]
In July 2012, Gigamon filed for an initial public offering (IPO) and went public on the New York Stock Exchange in June 2013 under the symbol "GIMO", raising $128 million.[1][2]
In 2017, private equity firm Elliott Management acquired Gigamon for $1.6 billion, taking the company private.[1][3]
In December 2022, Gigamon sold its ThreatINSIGHT cybersecurity business to Fortinet.[4] In 2024, private equity firm Siris Capital Group made a strategic minority investment in the company.[5]
Litigation
In April 2021, a federal jury in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas ruled against Gigamon in a patent infringement lawsuit it brought against rival APCON Inc., invalidating five of Gigamon's network data management patents.[6]
