Gigseekr is a free live music event discovery and ticket comparison website service providing detailed information on events, venues and artists. Although still in its infancy, 2016 saw Gigseekr gain considerable traction in the UK and Ireland by offering information on over 50,000 events. In May 2017 it was announced[2] at Microsoft BUILD that Gigseekr was one of the partners for the launch of Cortana skills, expanding the Gigseekr services into the United States.
Gigseekr is created by DAM Good Media and headquartered in Southampton, UK.
History[edit]
Built on Microsoft Azure, Gigseekr was created as a new consumer service in June 2016, replacing Pepper the social network for live music.
Office 365 Notifications[edit]
In May 2016, Gigseekr announced that it would support the Office 365 connector service as part of the main launch of the website. Gigseekr created a new notification system that allows Office 365 users to create custom notifications of new event announcements to be sent direct to a group mailbox, and launched this service to the public on 7 June 2016.
Artificial Intelligence[edit]
October 2016 saw Gigseekr developers start work on an AI system to help with the curation of event data and designed to not dilute the importance and accuracy of human gained data. The AI system was launched in April 2017 and works alongside the data capture team taking on the role of many junior members of staff performing tasks such as: simple event creation, highlighting patterns, and asking questions to improve its abilities.
United States & Cortana[edit]
Gigseekr announced the launch of event data for the US in Seattle at Microsoft BUILD, May 2017. Concert data was made available across 37 states simultaneously which was a task made possible due to the prior launch of the AI system.
Microsoft announced at BUILD that Gigseekr were to be a launch partner for Cortana skills, making live music event discovery available to users of Cortana through Windows 10 (Creators Update). Gigseekr's Cortana skill is able to provide localised event listings and information about artists and music venues. To invoke[3] Gigseekr on Cortana the user can say a phrase such as:
- "Hey Cortana, use Gigseekr"
- "Hey Cortana, ask Gigseekr for information about Ed Sheeran"
- "Hey Cortana, ask Gigseekr to tell me about events near me this month"
