From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Green Dot Bioplastics Inc, headquartered in Emporia, Kansas, manufactures bioplasticspolymers that are entirely biobased, meaning derived from plants and polymers that are compostable—as more sustainable alternatives to traditional petrochemical-based plastics.

History[edit]

Green Dot Holdings, LLC., was formed in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas, in 2011, with Mark Remmert as CEO. Before creating Green Dot, Remmert spent 30 years working for Dow Chemical in various leadership roles..[1]. That same year the company received a research grant from the Kansas Bioscience Authority[2].

In 2012, the company was issued US Patent #9,023,918 for GDH-BI, a biodegradable elastomeric rubber material[3]. Green Dot was named one of Bloomberg’s Most Promising Social Entrepreneurs in America in 2012[4].

In 2013, Green Dot acquired the bioplastics assets of MGP Ingredients, including a full-scale manufacturing facility, a materials development lab, and three new product lines[5].

The company changed its name to Green Dot Bioplastics in 2016. The same year, the company moved the product development facility to Ottawa, Kansas[6].

In 2018, Green Dot relocated its corporate headquarters to Emporia, Kansas.

In 2020, Green Dot was selected as a Global Finalist in the Extreme Tech Challenge[7].

Products[edit]

Green Dot manufactures the TerraTek® line of biobased and compostable resins including the first bioplastic elastomer verified to meet U.S. (ASTM D6400-04) and E.U. (EN 13432) standards for composting in an industrial composting facility[8]; a line of biodegradable bioplastic created from a proprietary combination of starch-based materials and other ingredients, [9]; and a line of biocomposites made up of wood, starch, corn cob, hemp, and a variety of other natural fillers combined with traditional plastics such as PP, PE, nylon, and polystyrene[10].

In 2015, Green Dot collaborated with the band Pearl Jam to create a biodegradable luggage tag as a gift to the band’s fan club members[11].

In 2017, Green Dot partnered with Braskem to develop a biocomposite made with more than 90% renewable feedstock[12]. A line of John Deere toy tractors made from that material was awarded Bio-Based Product of the Year (Americas) by Bio-Based World News[13]
