Ham Group of Companies[1] is a Ugandan multinational industrial privately owned conglomerate, founded by Hamis Kiggundu who is the majority share holder in each of the companies in the group. It is one of the largest conglomerates in Uganda with operations in England[2] and the United States, Canada and South Africa.[3][4] The group directly employs over 7000 people according to Forbes[5].

Ham Group was founded in 2005 as a trading enterprise,[6][7] importing garments, furniture and ladies' bags for distribution in the East African Market through retail and wholesale. The group moved into real estates in 2010, starting construction of Ham Towers, Ham shopping mall and Ham Electro Center, Ham Shopping Grounds, around the City Center of Kampala.[8] The company next moved to General Merchandise, setting up queens' stores, then to Manufacturing: a range of cosmetics and beauty products (Cash and Roxy), Laundry, Toilet and general household soap and detergents, a range of beverages including bottled Mineral water, growing rapidly and spreading into South Africa, United States and United Kingdom.
Overview[edit]
The origin of the group began 2003, when Ham's father Hajji Ssegawa gave him capital to do business while still studying.[7] Ham owned his first large shop in 2006 at Qualicel shopping center dealing in women modern clothes, he then turned to importing furniture from China and reselling it at great profits and finally started buying and reselling land. In 2010 he established Ham Enterprises and mortgaged one of his father's buildings and secured a mega bank facility from DTB and started construction of Ham Towers.[9]
The group now owns and operates over 15 subsidiaries, operating in two African countries, American states: California[4][10] and Texas[3][11] and the British city of Manchester.[12]
In December 2018, the Group started construction of a $300 million 500 luxury housing project in Akright City.[13][14] In July 2019 the group signed an agreement with the Roko Construction to set up US$200 million Ham Agro-Processing Industries to promote import substitution by being able to add value to Ugandan produced foods instead of importation of Agro-processed products[15]with an aim to stop Ugandan money from exiting the country to benefit Agro-processing factories abroad.[16][17]
