History
The Hartek Group commenced as a trading house of high-voltage electrical equipment in 1991 by Indian entrepreneur Hartek Singh. It was the first company in the North Region in the mid-1990s to provide a one-stop high-voltage power equipment solution. It also started manufacturing DG sets in collaboration with American giant Caterpillar, but soon had to close down operations due to financial setbacks. Mr Hartek Singh restructured the organisation and focused back on its core business of high-voltage power equipment and electrical grid construction. In 2000, the group commenced its fuel business unit by partnering with Indian giant Reliance Industries Limited; the company is currently one of the largest distributors of RIL’s furnace oil products.
The group’s second phase in the mid-2000s started when it ventured into Engineering, Procurement, and Construction contracts of high-voltage substations, electrical infrastructure, and transmission projects catering to all power needs of industries, independent power producers, and utilities, and led to the formation of Hartek Power Private Limited (HPPL). Leveraging its decade-plus experience and technical collaboration with technology giants in the field of electrical grid and high-voltage power distribution equipment. The EPC arm of the Hartek group grew exponentially with the completion of 100+ projects in both high-voltage and extra-high-voltage segments in just 7 years.
The group’s third phase started with venturing into backward integration and manufacturing of medium-voltage switchboards up to 33 KV, control relay panels, grid automation, and other allied products. The Group signed a partnership agreement with French giant Schneider Electric for providing technology and design support in the field of power distribution products. The manufacturing unit is based in Mohali (Punjab). It was during that time in 2011–12 that it also ventured into solar power plants, focusing on its core business of grid construction and power distribution equipment; venturing into solar power plants was another game-changer for the company. As of 30 August 2016, the company, in a span of 6 years, has connected 300 MW+ of solar to the grid and has bagged close to 500 MW of orders in the first 6 months of the current financial year (2016–17), as reported in the Economic Times on 19 October 2016, and is one of the largest solar grid EPC partners in the country. The company’s rooftop solar division is also catching up, providing complete EPC solutions on a CAPEX basis to commercial and industrial segments.
