Heiko Schrang (born 1969 in Berlin, Germany)[1] is a German author and businessman.
Life
Schrang worked as a real estate agent since 1990 in Berlin.[2] He claims to be Buddhist, describes himself as an enlightened one of the "light of truth".[3] He compares himself to Gandhi and Ali.[4]
Business
Schrang worked as an author and published "The Lie of the Century" in 2013 and "In the Sign of Truth" in 2017. His books were published by his own publishing house.[1]
In 2016, Schrang started a business with a mixture of health, Buddhist philosophy, conspiracies and far-right politics. Schrang operates a publishing house, an app and a web shop. However, the core of his business is his YouTube channel, "Schrang TV". As host, he invited the CDU politicians Vera Lengsfeld and Max Otte (now banned from CDU). He also hosted the neo-Nazi Martin Sellner from the Identitarian Movement. Lisa Fitz, the singer Gabi Decker and the alternative medicine practitioner Rüdiger Dahlke appeared also in his show.[1]
Schrang's channels rose in popularity with the rise of the so-called Querdenker movement.[5][6] In May 2021, Christian Stöcker (Der Spiegel) wrote that the "conspiracy-theory businessmen" Schrang, Jürgen Elsässer, Ken Jebsen and others would take up the Yellow Vest movement for their purposes.[7]
Schrang runs a Telegram channel (81,000 – 85,000 followers).[3][8] Schrang's logo is a circle with a dot in the middle. Schrang calls the symbol a “sign of truth”. Since the summer of 2020, Schrang's logo and lettering can often be seen on T-shirts, hats and sweaters at the demonstrations of the Querdenker movement.[8]
Reception
Schrang's symbol "stands for the intersection between esotericism, belief in conspiracies and right-wing extremist ideology, which make the protests so problematic," the Antonio Amadeu foundation said.[9]
