Hell Gate is journalist owned blog based in New York City that covers all the boroughs. It was launched online in May 2022. The website says its coverage will feature "a mixture of blog posts, features, columns, and investigations."

The website launched on May 2, 2022, with an article about the recent uptick of crab-based restaurants in New York City.[1] The site is named after the Hell Gate Bridge and has six founding members whose work has appeared in outlets like NPR, Eater, WNYC, Streetsblog, Jezebel, The New Republic, The New York Times, The Intercept, New York Times Magazine, Rolling Stone and Gothamist.[2]

Coverage[edit]

The site's initial coverage included an investigation into a corrupt city employee who was fired[3] and an expose of how a popular case was mishandled by two detectives.[4] The site has also covered protests and events in the city, music reviews and hyperlocal blogs.
