Hide is a 2011 free indie horror game made by Andrew Shouldice.
Gameplay
The game is played from a first-person perspective. The protagonist is featureless and silent. The player is in a snowy forest, by night, and surrounded by enemies. He must find notes (they can be located by a faint sound around their locations). The more the player finds notes, the more the enemies become numerous and faster.
Plot
The protagonist (who is assumed to be a wanted convict) is roaming a forest at night. The woods are also patrolled by shadowy figures (assumed to be cops or prison guards) and sirens are blaring away in the night.
Development
Hide was developed for the Super Friendship Club's Jam.
Legacy
- It's often regarded as one of the games that launched the "Pixel-horror" trend, along with Imscared by Ivan Zanotti, Home by Benjamin Rivers and Lone Survivor by Jasper Byrne.
- It's also likely the inspiration for Slender: The Eight Pages, released the year after and which has a similar gameplay (although it's not proven).
