Himanshu Singh Rajawat ( November 25, 1975 ) was born in Pali, Bhitwara, Rajasthan. He came into news when he was sent to jail for 7.3[1] years during an encounter investigation[2]

Early life[edit]

Himanshu was brought up in a community where education was of no importance, and individuals would move to other places for earning after completing their secondary education. He completed his 12th from a school in his local village and did his graduation from Udaipur. After graduation, he started preparing for the Rajasthan Defense Services[3]

Career[edit]

Rajawat's first job was as a receptionist in a hotel. After graduation, he started preparing for Rajasthan Defense Services.

After passed defense exams in the first attempt and joined the Rajasthan Police as a sub-inspector in 1999.

Controversy[edit]

Himanshu was in jail for 7 years 3 months[4], in an encounter case[5][6]. He was selected for a special mission to arrest Sohrabuddin Sheikh, a wanted criminal of Gujarat state.[7] Amongst around 150 Sub Inspectors[8], only 2 were selected for this mission[9]. The team started working on the mission. Gujarat ATS and Rajasthan SPF, they United to catch Sohrabuddin. He accused of murders and drug dealings. He was also accused of planning murder of Narendra Modi, back then when he was the CM of Gujarat. Sohrabuddin was connected with the ISI. He was arrested by team, along with his wife Kauser Bi and his friend, Tulsiram Prajapati on 23-24 November, 2005.[10]

Accused & Jailed[edit]

Himanshu had to go to jail[11] till the final verdict came and was kept in the high-security cell of Central Jail in Mumbai.[12][13]

Clean Chit by Court[edit]

after several requests for interim bail through the Sessions Court, the High Court[14][15] and even the Supreme court[16], but they were ignored and Bail rejected. However, after 7.5 years Rajawat and his team got bail and later proved their innocence before the court.[17][18][19][20]

After Jail[edit]

Himanshu started his duties with the same energy and was honest towards his duties. promoted to a higher post and given a clean chit.[21]
