Honkaku Shochu & Awamori Day[edit]

In September 1987, the Japan Sake and Shochu Makers Association.[1] [2]established November 1 as “Honkaku Shochu & Awamori Day”[3]

The producing of shochu begins in August or September each year[4][5], and the "authentic shochu nouveau," or auspicious new Honkaku Shochu & Awamori of the year, is ready to drink on or around November 1.

In Japan, October is called “Kannazuki(神無月)”[6] month, when all the gods of Japan gather at Izumo-taisha shrine. And November is considered to be a happy month because the absent gods return to all around of Japan, and people began to enjoy authentic Honkaku Shochu and Awamori to celebrate, which is why November 1 was designated as Honkaku Shochu & Awamori Day.
