Honorio Banario (born September 25, 1989) is a Filipino mixed martial artist who is currently signed with ONE Championship. He is the former ONE Featherweight champion and current ONE Lightweight fighter. He is a member of Team Lakay Wushu.

Biography

Banario was born in Mankayan, Benguet, Philippines. Banario worked as a farmer since he was a child and later he was bullied. At the age of 16, Banario started training in martial arts to protect himself from bullies and to overcome his low self-esteem. Banario attended Cordillera Career Development College and won national tournaments.

Early career

Banario became undefeated at the URCC with a record of 6–0 and became the Lightweight champion.

ONE Championship

2012

Banario signed with ONE Fighting Championship. Banario faced Bae Young Kwon at ONE FC: Battle of Heroes on February 11, 2012. Banario lost via Submission (rear-naked choke) in the first round.

Banario's next fight was against Andrew Benibe at ONE FC: Pride of a Nation on August 31, 2012. Banario won via TKO in the third round.

2013

Banario challenged Eric Kelly for the inaugural ONE Featherweight world champion title at ONE FC: Return of the Warriors on February 2, 2013. Banario won via TKO and claimed the ONE Featherweight world champion title. [1]

Banario defended the title against Koji Oishi at ONE FC: Rise to Power on May 31, 2013. Banario lost via KO in the second round and passed the title to Koji Oishi.

Banario took a rematch against Koji Oishi to reclaim the title at ONE FC: Moment of Truth on December 6, 2013. Banario lost via KO in the third round.[2]

In 2014, Banario fought Jadamba Narantungalag at ONE FC: Honorio Banario on May 30, 2014. Banario lost via Unanimous decision.

Banario's next challenge was Herbert Burns at ONE FC: Warrior's Way on December 5, 2014. Banario lost via Submission (rear-naked choke) in the first round.

2015

Banario's next fight was against Ev Ting at ONE Championship: Tigers of Asia on October 9, 2015. Banario lost via Submission (guillotine choke) in the first round.

Banario announced he was moving up to Lightweight and faced Adrian Pang at ONE Championship: Heroes of Honor on April 20, 2018. Banario won via Split decision.[3]

In 2019, Banario fought Lowen Tynanes for the ONE Lightweight Grand Prix at ONE Championship: Hero's Ascent on January 25, 2019. Banario lost via TKO in the first round.[5]
