Horimoto Takenori

HORIMOTO Takenori (born January 8, 1943、堀本武功) is a Japanese Scientist of International Politics and Professor of South Asian Studies. He is an expert on India, South Asian and Indo-Pacific in Japan.

Career outline[edit]

After studying B.A. degree at the Law Faculty of Chuo University in 1966, he took the MA degree in Political Science, University of Delhi under the Government of India scholarship from 1968 to 1970. He was Special Assistant of politics in the Embassy of Japan in India. April 1972, he joined the National Diet Library.

From October 1999 to Febrary 2002, he served as the Director General of Research and Legislative of the National Diet Library (Japan's Congressional Research Service) with the research staff of 180.

After his retirement in 2002, he served as Professor of Graduate School of Shobi University along with Project Professor of Graduate School of Kyoto University, Visiting Professor of Graduate School of Takushoku University and Open Air University of Japan. He was members of various student projects organized by the Japanese Ministry of Finance, Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Institute of Developing Economies , Japan Institute of International Affairs and National Institute for Humanities and a number of universities.

Currently Visiting Professor of Gifu Women's University in Gifu Prefecture, Councilor of Japan-India Association and Senior Fellow of Center for Contemporary Indian Studies of the Japan-India Association.

Research and related activities[edit]

Total 15 books of single authored and co-edited in Japanese and English. Besides 35 co-authored books, more than 100 periodical articles in Japanese[1] and English. He has also been a commentator on NHK (Japan's BBC) TV programs on Asian issues more than 40 times.
