Humanity's Last Breath is a Swedish progressive metal band from Helsingborg. Formed in 2009 by Vildhjarta drummer Buster Odeholm, the music of Humanity's Last Breath is characterized by exceedingly downtuned guitars, pitch-shifted dissonants and highly syncopated rhythms.[1] Their debut EP Reanimated by Hate published in 2010 was characterized by a more standard deathcore sound, which has since evolved into a distinguished blend of blackened death metal and djent through following releases.[2][3] Their latest album, Välde, was released in 2021.[4]
Buster Odeholm was the sole member of of the band until the 2016 release of Detestor, at which point the band gained vocalist Filip Danielsson as a member. Calle Thomer and Marcus Rosell provide live guitar and drums, respectively.
All music recorded by Humanity's Last Breath is produced by Odeholm Audio (formerly Impact Studios), which is the enterprise of Buster Odeholm.
History[edit]
The group was formed in 2009 by guitarist Buster Odeholm and Kristoffer Nilsson. Since its inception, Odeholm writes, produces, mixes, and masters their music.[5] After the departure of Nilsson, Odeholm was joined by Filip Danielsson (vocals), Johan Aldgård (guitar), and Marcus Rosell (drums) in 2016. After the release of their 2011 debut full-length Structures Collapse, the band replaced Aldgård with Calle Thomer, who went on to appear on their eponymous second record. After two albums on Rogue Records, the band self-released the Detestor EP in 2016, moving into a more technical domain of metal.[6] Throughout this evolution of genre, the band began to abandon its conventional deathcore roots and incorporated elements of black metal and djent, opting for a more atmospheric and apocalyptic artistic expression.[7][8][9][10] This sound has been labeled blackened and progressive deathcore.[11][12][13] Their third album, 2019's Abyssal, was also their first for their new label Unique Leader Records.[14] Humanity's Last Breath returned in 2021 with Välde.
