IRW is a registered NGO established in 1992 with a vision to serve the society by providing trained volunteer services in dire situations of natural catastrophes i.e earth quakes, floods, accidents, landslides, epidemics and other social disturbances like riots, among others...[1] IRW was formed in 1992 with the support of Jamaat-e-Islami Kerala at Kozhikode.[2] It is focusing on rescue, relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction during and after calamities such as earthquakes, flood, accidents, epidemics and ethnic pogroms. IRW maintains a core volunteer group including trained men, women, medical practitioners, para-medical workers etc., and involves in all major disasters across South Asia.[3]
Vision and Mission[edit]
IRW states its mission as "To Serve the Created as Assigned by the Creator". Its mission statement is described as "Extend systematic, skilled and dedicated volunteering service to the needy at times of natural and man-made calamities to ensure effective Rescue, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction".[4]
