The Iranian American Sport & Culture Association (IASA) is a non-profit sports organization initially formed as the Iranian American Wrestling Association in Los Angeles in 2013.

Mission[edit]

IASA formed in 2013 in response to International Olympic Committee's proposal to drop wrestling from the games from 2020.[1]

IASA was founded to bring together Iranians and Americans through sport, promote friendship, to build mutual understanding, and to engage in US-Iranian sport exchanges events. IASA seeks to develop the ideals of good sportsmanship, honesty and respect for authority, and using sport as a tool to promote positive social change in the lives of young people and to prevent youth substance abuse and violence. IASA strives to preserve, expand and advance interests of Iranian-American sports including: wrestling, Pahlevani and zoorkhaneh rituals, backgammon, polo, etc.

IASA aims to supervise, sponsor and assist a disciplined and competitive sports academy and program of wrestling, pahalvani, and zoorkhaneh.[2][3]

Activities[edit]

IASA, guided by Sports Diplomacy, has been part of the following Iran-USA sports diplomacy, events and socials serving as a facilitator in US-Iranian sports exchanges, cooperating with USA Wrestling, Iran Wrestling, California Wrestling, USA Volleyball, Iran Volleyball and local and international athletic and media delegations[4][5] providing transportation,[6] interpretation, accommodation, distribution and sales of tickets in the Los Angeles area in cooperation with World Cup/championships committees[7] and publicity and news coverage in cooperation with other media outlets,[8][9] for both Team USA and Iran's actions:
